If elected, I pledge to serve my full 4 year term.
In addition, I pledge to work with fellow schoolboard members, administration, employees, parents, students and the community in a collaborative, respectful manner - at all times.

The Toledo Public School Board election will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Voters will elect two new board members. During the campaign, Toledoans deserve to have an insightful and honest conversation about education, that provides factual information and data-driven plans for success.

Every child deserves a quality education that will adequately prepare them for their future. Now, more than ever, with a changing economy, global competition, emerging technology, down-sizing and outsourcing - Toledo’s children need to be effectively prepared to compete and step into the jobs of tomorrow.

Currently, too many children in the Toledo Public Schools are being underserved ...and falling behind academically. With a focus on math, science and technology fields, national reports predict that 70% of the jobs of tomorrow will require post secondary education. Even with these predictions and forecasts…too many TPS students are underperforming in the areas of math, science and reading comprehension, with limited computer/technology access and skills.

I am the candidate for education reform... asking for your support. As your elected school board member, I pledge to the Toledo community, to advocate for quality education, on behalf of every school, every child.

The Ohio Educatio Gadfly
Leaving Ohio's Children Behind
When it comes to student success, Ohio is kidding itself. Our state's precipitously low academic expectations leave students ill-prepared to compete in the global economy. This is the disturbing conclusion of several major, in-depth assessments of our students' academic performance.

Boardmanship
A board's primary function is that of policy making. A board should have clear and concise policies to do the job it was elected to do. After policies have been adopted, administrative procedures are established. The board should then depend upon its superintendent to implement these policies goals and objectives through the agreed - to procedures.

What Boards Can Do
School board members are in a unique position to build and sustain the momentum around after-school program initiatives in their communities. The board, in collaboration with the superintendent, staff, and community leaders, can initiate a range of policies, networks, funding adjustments, incentives, quality standards, training, technical assistance, and convening strategies to help transform schools into community learning centers with a rich array of learning opportunities beyond regular school hours. At the same time, these initiatives can help make after-school and summer programs better count for learning and positive youth development.
